Santiago got a relatively late start racing motorcycles, taking to the racetrack for the first time in his home country of Colombia in 1998. He quickly made up for lost time - in one season he would win the first of thirteen Colombian National Superbike and Supersport Championships. In 2001 he won also the Cup of Nations in Venezuela.
In 2006, his results in the Colombian Series provided him with the sponsorship necessary to travel to the US and race CCS in the Florida region where he made an immediate impact, finishing second overall in the 2006 CCS regional championship. Santiago also won two National Championships and the Solo Team Challenge at the Race of Champions.
For 2007 Santiago won three CCS Southeast Championships and the CCS Southeast region #1 plate. He also raced in five AMA Superstock races on his own team, finishing the season 18th in AMA Superstock points.
Santiago's 2008 season, his first with Team Roadracingworld.com, was cut short by an injury suffered at the Miller Motorsports Park AMA round.
Santiago rides on the Roadracingworld.com Suzuki team with Chris Ulrich on the 2010 Suzuki GSX-R600 in the AMA Daytona Sportbike class, but brings personal sponsorship from P3 and MotoXtreme.
